On SCALE, there are two types of chains that cater to different needs: Hub Chains and App Chains.
Hub Chains are designed to host multiple dApps on a single blockchain, each dedicated to a specific function within the SCALE ecosystem. Hub Chains offer a more accessible entry point for developers who want to avoid the complexities and costs associated with running a dedicated App Chain.

App Chains are dedicated, customizable blockchains for individual dApps. From gaming to AI to DeFi and Social platforms, these chains are wholely owned by a single dApp. Developers can spin up app chains that are fully customizable according to the unique requirements of their dApps.
Before starting your journey on SCALE, you need to set up your wallet. Follow the steps below to get started with setting up a SCALE-compatible wallet.
If you already have a wallet installed, select your wallet
from the “recommended wallet” list on the left side of the
pop-up, and follow the prompts. The most used wallet is
MetaMask.
If you don’t have a wallet set up
already, select “Get a wallet” and proceed to the next step.
Select one of the SCALE recommended wallets, click “Get,” then
follow the instructions to install and set up your wallet.
Note: Be sure to follow the setup instructions
exactly, and safeguard your wallet’s private key and secret
phrase.
Once your wallet setup is complete, click the “Connect Wallet”
button again and select your installed wallet, then follow the
prompts in the wallet pop up.
Congrats! Your
wallet is now set up and connected to the portal, so
you're ready to start exploring the SCALE ecosystem.
To fully experience the diverse range of dApps and services available, users may need to interact with multiple SCALE Chains. Adding these chains to your preferred wallet allows for seamless navigation and engagement across the entire SCALE ecosystem. SCALE currently supports a large number of wallets, including Coinbase, Metamask, Rabby, Rainbow, and WalletConnect.
The chain page features all Hub and App Chains in one place.
On the chain page, all Hub and App Chains are easily accessible.
Click "Connect to Chain", the button located below the chain description. Your wallet will then prompt a pop-up message asking for approval to add the chain.
Click "Approve" on your wallet to add the chain to your wallet. Your wallet may also prompt you to switch from the last used blockchain to the selected SCALE Chain. Click "Switch" on your wallet to proceed.
Once the chain is added to your wallet, you can access it under the network toggle at the top left of your wallet, allowing you to switch networks easily. You'll now be able to interact with the SCALE chain the same way you do Ethereum or any other EVM chain.
SCALE provides a gas-free experience, enabling users to transact
seamlessly without the burden of escalating transaction fees.
SCALE
utilizes sFuel, a valueless "gas" token that powers all
SCALE blockchains and allows them to operate without traditional
transaction fees. sFUEL also plays a crucial security role. By
rate-limiting transactions through sFUEL, SCALE effectively
eliminated the risk of potential DDoS attacks and spam
transactions.
To add sFuel to your wallet:
The Bridge page can also easily be accessed on the left side navigation bar.
Scroll down and click agree.
Click “Get sFUEL” to distribute sFUEL to your wallet. Note that sFUEL is chain-specific, so in this case, you’d be adding sFUEL to your wallet on the Europa DeFi Hub Chain. Make sure to select the correct chain where you wish to receive the sFUEL. Many first-time users on SCALE will repeat this process for every SCALE chain in their wallet.
In blockchain, bridging refers to the process of transferring
assets from one blockchain to another. This allows users to move
tokens or interact with dApps across different blockchain
ecosystems without being confined to just one blockchain. For
example, you may want to transfer your assets from Ethereum to a
faster, more cost-effective network like SCALE to take advantage
of its zero-gas environment and use the unique dApps in the SCALE
ecosystem.
To Bridge to a SCALE Chain:
The Bridge page can also easily be accessed on the left side navigation bar.
Scroll down and click agree.
Select your desired SCALE Chain from the top left corner as a
destination for your assets. For instance, if you want to
access SushiSwap, a leading DeFi application, you would select
the Europa DeFi Hub as your destination, since SushiSwap
operates on the Europa DeFi Hub Chain..
Or let’s
say you want to play Haven's Compass, a first-person
shooter game available on the Epic Games Store, you would
choose the Nebula Gaming Hub Chain.
Fun Fact: when
you bridge to any SCALE chain, sFuel is automatically added to
your wallet. Whenever you run out, just follow the steps
outlined above.
Click the “Get sFUEL” button to add sFUEL to your wallet. Note that sFUEL is chain-specific, so in this case, you’d be getting sFUEL on the Europa DeFi Hub Chain. Make sure to select the correct chain where you wish to receive sFUEL, or simply do this for every SCALE chain in your wallet.
Choose the asset you want to bridge to the SCALE Chain, input the amount, press the “Transfer” button, and approve the transaction in your wallet's pop-up.
A notification will appear on the bridging page once the
transfer is complete. You can also view the transaction in the
“History” tab on the left.
Congrats! Your assets
are now on SCALE!
If this is your first time bridging to this SCALE Chain,
you'll need to add the token to your wallet in order to
display your balance.
Click the "Add
Token" button then follow the prompts in the wallet
pop-up notification.
Now that you've set up everything, you're ready to explore the SCALE ecosystem. With your wallet on your current SCALE chain of choice, and your assets bridged to it, dive into the world of gas-free Web3 on SCALE. SCALE operates with a unique model where developers pay a flat chain subscription fee to host their dApp on a SCALE Hub Chain or to spin up their own SCALE chain. These fees effectively subsidize gas fees for end-users, allowing for a seamless, gas-free transaction experience.
The wallets that have confirmed functionality with SCALE’s multi-chain architecture, and therefore are recommended, are Encrypt Wallet, Metamask, Coinbase Wallet, Rainbow, and Rabby Wallet.
Yes, you can bridge assets from over 45+ chains to SCALE using Meson.fi directly via the "Transfer" page on the SCALE Portal.
SKL is the governance token of the SCALE Network. It is an ERC20 token used to reward validators and delegators who stake their SKL tokens to secure the network, as a payment method for developer chain subscription fees, and for on-chain governance. Note that SKL is not a gas token, as SCALE is a gas-free network. You can find the trading markets for SKL via CoinMarketCap or CoinGecko.
If you encounter any issues while bridging, visit the Portal page and click on the "?" button at the top right of the page. Then select "Open Support Chat," explain your issue to the chatbot, and if unresolved, you can open a support ticket. A member of the SCALE team will then get in touch to assist you.
If you bridged tokens to a SCALE Chain but don't see them in your Metamask, you may need to manually import them as they are not visible by default. To do this first make sure the SCALE Chain is added to your wallet by reviewing the “Adding SCALE Chains to Your Wallet” section above. Then, import the token to your wallet by following step 8 (Add Token to Wallet) from the “Bridging to SCALE” section.
sFUEL is a valueless "gas" token that powers the SCALE blockchains and allows them to operate without traditional transaction costs. sFUEL also plays a crucial security role. By rate-limiting transactions through sFUEL, SCALE effectively curtails the risk of potential DDoS attacks and spam transactions. Without such a mechanism, attackers could flood the network with fake transactions, disrupting service for legitimate users.
